Dear Members and Guests,
I am writing to inform you that the Board has held a special meeting to consider suspending our dance events starting this Friday March 20, through Friday April 30, 2020.
In consideration of our members health, and those in our community who are most at risk of developing serious illness from the COVID 19 virus, the Board has agreed to cancel the the dances as of this Friday. This action will take the pressure off of the Elks Management as well as our Bands who would otherwise be under contract to open and perform under very difficult conditions with so many services closing.
We will also avoid suffering serious losses by not opening while people are fearful of contact in large crowds. This will be a good time to reflect on how much we have and appreciate our good health. I have not had any news of our members being ill and that is a blessing. Catching up on reading, playing cards or board games with family. Maybe some Honey do projects you want to get done. We should all be patient and careful to minimize our exposure. We have all seen the safety measures we should take.
Even though most people may have mild to moderate symptoms, none of us has any resistance due to this being a new emerging virus. It is in everyone’s best interest that we do all we can to help slow the spread, and mitigate the rate of severe cases to avoid overwhelming our medical services.
I pray that all of you are safe and healthy, and for all of our fellow Americans. If you need help with anything please let me know and I will see what I can do, or reach out to other members. I wish to reassure you that we will get through this. Though we may be apart for a while, and miss a few dances, and the music and merriment, I believe this will bring us closer, and more beholding to one another as a result.
I will be in further discussions with the Board regarding our future activities and events. We may postpone the General Membership Meeting until May. We will keep you informed of our plans going forward as we await news of changing conditions regarding the virus, and the risk we face going forward. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you all for your support of our club, your continued patience and your faith in me, and in our Board. We are committed to getting past this challenge. I look forward to seeing all of you soon.
Sincerely,
Stephen Harris ~ President
